my football career
afc/grade school | 1999-2000 | 2000-2001 | 2001-2002 | present

GrassrootS

it all started when my cousin pao (who was invited by a classmate, manu) and his kuya len joined the ateneo football center (afc). it was then that i decided to tag along and join as well. we were in grade 1 that time.

and that, as they say, is that.

ahahahhhaha...bitin! =) jk..heheh. well, after that my love for the sport just grew.. i continued to train and enjoy and even kissing football (tm adidas..hehe) in afc.. even playing in the football festivals they hold every 6 months or so.

afc days
the old school.. hehe

eventually i became a member of the varsity team of the grade school..during which the team has been practicing once a week in the school's extra-curriculum activity period. even so, tuloy pa rin yung mga afc sessions during weekends. because of our skills training that was far advanced than other schools, the team won 1st in almost every rifa (rizal football assoc.) championship tournaments and festivals we joined.

it was in the 6th grade (97-1998) when i started getting exposure to teams outside manila. ncr selected and sent a football team which comprised mostly of ateneans (including me) to bacolod for the palarong pambansa. i forgot the exact results but we basically lost...to bicol. grabe, tigas ng katawan nila! they were stronger, taller and more intimidating. walang wala talaga kami. oh wel.

pao & me
that's pao and me..tagal na nito!

during the 6th grade also, some of us ateneans were invited to join a delegation to play and tour finland, sweden and denmark. we missed 1 month of school!! ahaha! oh wel. the trip was all about having fun, so medyo di na sineryoso yung games. kaya yun...i think the highest we placed is 4th. honestly speaking this was my first experience having girls around mwehehehe =)

hmm...in grade 7 (98-1999) two of us (anton zamora and me) were drafted to the high school team. thus, we were able to attend additional practices every week after school. it was good training, especially since the level of football was raised. also, because of the 'wonderboy' treatment the high school (then) ppl gave us. anywho, we won champions both up there and right here in the grade school.
